Digital Object
1 : an item in one or more digital collections consisting of digital content, such as a (metadata) record and image. Although a digital object is often composed of two or more data objects, a metadata record is generally considered a basic requirement per valid digital object.
2 : a set of sequences of bits (data objects) possibly of varying mimetypes. Each data object in a digital object directly relates to another data object in the same digital object by providing further description, detailing access instructions, or being a copy (e.g. large image to thumbnail image relationship)
3 : items composed of a discrete sequence of bits. Images, text documents, video and audio media files, binary executables, and much, much more can be considered digital objects.
